Angela Moore often likes to say, “I’m a Washingtonian by birth and a Georgian by choice!” A native of Washington DC, she has strong southern roots with extended families in Georgia and Louisiana, with whom she maintains close ties.
As a mother, entrepreneur, political and social advocate, Angela possesses those qualities of persuasiveness, community consciousness, flexibility, decision making, inclusiveness, tenacity and an ability to initiate change, all required to successfully assume the task of running the office of Secretary of State.
Looking back on her humble beginnings, Angela states that she is a blessed product of the fruits of her ancestors’ labor in their struggle for fairness and equality. She attributes her strong leadership qualities and her love for family and community to her family, from whom she received honorable life values.
Angela attended the University of the District of Columbia, where she pursued her bachelor’s degree in science and biology. She later went on to pursue specialized training in the healthcare profession, dedicating her life's work to Women's healthcare.
Having an unusual sense of purpose when she was in her late teens, Angela knew that the political arena was one of her true passions because it incorporated strategic mental planning and public service – natural qualities that she saw in her developing personality. Angela believes that being in politics is a calling and that one should only stand in the ring if one is prepared to work selflessly for ALL People regardless of party affiliation; she finds gratification in doing the peoples business by getting the job done.
During her late teens, Angela cut her teeth in the arena of union and political activity by working as a dedicated Teamster representative at the Washington Post and later as a member of the Communications Workers of America, Printing and Media Division, where she learned Teamwork, dedication, and loyalty. She was also appointed to the mayor’s teen initiative program where she worked to ensure that eligible young men and women were registered to vote and cast their votes at the polls.
While In Washington, Angela worked with numerous campaigns, including those of the D.C. Mayor and various district council members. She also worked with President Bill Clinton’s first campaign for the White House. Angela has facilitated almost every aspect of grass roots campaigning for candidates ― from stuffing envelopes to standing in traffic holding signs and from phone banking to strategic planning with the best and the brightest.
After moving to Georgia, Angela attended Georgia Tech’s School of Business where she learned the “business of business.” She used the skills acquired from her professional training to establish her own business, which specializes in staff placements for the medical profession.
Angela has been heavily committed to the success of the Democratic Party in our state and has worked in several local and statewide campaigns. She served as Chair of the 92nd House District, Senate Advisory Chair of the 43rd District and is currently the Communications Director for the Democratic Party of DeKalb.
In 2006, Angela gained an enormous wealth of campaign experience during a run for statewide election. It was her honor to engage in the race to become Georgia's next Secretary of State where her faith in Georgians was heightened after meeting such wonderful people across the state.
In 2004, Angela ran an aggressive campaign for DeKalb County's 5th District Commission seat. Angela is determined to continue her political aspirations until she can serve the people of Georgia in an official capacity.
